Custom Textured Text

In this After Effects quick tip, i will show you how to make a custom texture and use matte to achieve beautiful looking effect. So let’s get started

Create a new composition [preferably 720p]. Create a new layer and name it as BG. Give it a Ramp effect. Choose desired colors of your taste and ramp style.

Next, grab the free ny textures from videocopilot. I choose’d the yellow one. Now open this texture in photoshop, use the brush tool (choose any brush type from brush presets) and just paint the texture randomly with some random colors. I made some like this.

Come back to after effects and drag this texture on to the composition.

Create a text named Flowers(since i used flower brush preset in Photoshop). With this “Text layer” on the top, select the texture below the text layer and then choose TrkMatte -> Luma Matte. Wow! It is already looking great right?. Precompose the Text and Texture layer. Right Click on the Pre-Comp layer choose layer styles “Drop Shadow”. Also choose Effect -> Stylize -> Glow. Set intensity to 0.5 and Radius to 60. You will that shadow get blown out in the background and that is what i want. Here’s my Final Shot

I also opened Precomp and animated scale values from about 50-100. This gives us a slightly different look and overall it adds some motion to it. I also animated text using built in Animated Text Presets. .gif below

Title Sequence Design : ಕಾಡ ಹಾದಿಯ ಹೂವುಗಳು

I was working on a Title Sequence for the film “ಕಾಡ ಹಾದಿಯ ಹೂವುಗಳು” which was never submitted to end person. But why not upload the process i went through for creating it. Right?. I have posted my process towards the creation of this design. Hopefully you like it.

1. Sketch

I sketched the title using my drawing book. I wanted this design to be something like old Indian poetry’s handwriting. So i made plenty of sketches and finally i approved myself that this design is okay. See the image below.

2. Tracing

Okay. Next part is to trace it in Illustrator. That’s because i’m not a Photoshop guy. I love Adobe Illustrator than any adobe products. It took be an hour to trace the entire art work. When deciding the outcome of this Title i wanted to make a ‘title plate’ for this design. So i made some flower like plate inside Illustrator itself. Here’s how it is.

Since the title name involves flowers, i also added some flourishes from Video Copilot’s “Evolution” stock footage[Adding flourishes idea was primarily made by my friend Manoj].

3. Title plate in Cinema4D

For title plate to look cool, i copied the title plate made in Illustrator and made splines out of it. I then extruded and beveled a bit to look good. Here’s how it is

4. Final Compositing in After Effects

I imported everything into After Effects for final composition. Using Element3D i imported the Cinema4D’s file i created in the earlier process. Final image below

Okay. I hope you liked my post and the design. Thanks
